Yemenis to Commemorate 10th of Muharram

Yemeni People are preparing to commemorate 10th of Muharram (Ashura), which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH), Thursday afternoon in the capital Sanaa.

The Organizing Committee of the events called on all Yemeni People to take part in this great march which coincided with 10th of Muharram, identifying the event place at the airport Street.

Another major march will be held to commemorate the occasion in the northern province of Sa’ada and in various governorates.

Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and 72 of his companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the torturous Umayyad caliph, Yazid I, which some historians estimate to have been 100,000-strong.

The anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein came while Yemen is under war and an injustice blockade imposed by the US-Saudi aggression, which has been committing the most heinous crimes against Yemenis since March 2015.

Millions of Muslims across the whole world commemorate the martyrdom of the son of the prophet, Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his companions in the 10th of Muharram Ashura.
